By the end of the 18th century the now independent States of North America appeared on the East Indian market with ships of their own. In the early 19th century the political unrest in Europe forced the Swedish company to rely on a large import trade on American ships. With this tea an important reexport trade was begun. Having been founded by the Dutch both New York (New Amsterdam) and the city of Gothenburg shows great similarities in planning still visibly today.
